Thanks to the BBC and BBC Three, we found out about Boyan Slat – the 23 year old on a mission to solve the World’s plastic problem.
Boyan has designed an incredible 1km wide contraption that drifts the same ocean currents as the rubbish it collects. Eight million tonnes of plastic ends up in the World’s oceans every year, with devastating consequences to marine life and the planet as a whole. Around a THIRD of all UK-caught fish contain traces of plastic contaminants!
Boyan’s system catches the plastic, and ships it to shore for recycling.
Boyan is the Founder & CEO of The Ocean Cleanup Project. We salute you Boyan!
